Deacon John Leary

Deacon John Leary was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on December 8th, 2007. He and his wife Donna live in Northfield and have been married for over 45 years. They have two adult children, John who lives in Alaska and Nicole who lives on Cape Cod. He is also blessed to have two grandchildren Ayla and Allison.

Deacon John has been a member of Blessed Trinity Parish since 2005 and has been assigned as one of the deacons to both Holy Trinity and Blessed Sacrament. Since diaconal service is not a paid position, deacon John’s fulltime ‘day job’ is Director of Information Technology at Westfield Gas & Electric in Westfield MA.

He and his wife were inspired to respond to the needs of the community during the COVID-19 crisis. They, with the help of many volunteers, created a grocery giveaway program in Greenfield. The very successful program gave away 275,000 pounds of free groceries during the crisis. That program has been transformed into an Open Pantry in the Blessed Trinity Parish Center.

He is passionate about his Faith; his true source of happiness is welcoming anyone and everyone, no matter who they are or where they have been, to the Catholic Church. His love for every child of God is evident and is more than happy to just meet people where they are.
