“In this way, we will do all that God requires.”
Jesus came to
Just before His Ascension, Jesus makes it clear that Baptism is a basic part of becoming His disciple; in the final words of Matthew's Gospel, Jesus commissions the apostles to "go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, Baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."
Baptism serves as the first Sacrament received when entering the Catholic Faith at any age. Through Baptism, we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God. We become members of the Body of Christ as we are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.
The Sacrament of Baptism is open to all who desire to enter into the Christian life. While we typically envision parents holding their newborns in front of the Priest when we think of Baptisms, this Sacrament is open to all ages from infancy through adulthood. It is a Sacrament of Initiation that you can only receive one time. This means once you have received it, you officially enter into the Body of Christ.
Infant Baptism. All Catholic parents are encouraged to Baptize their children into their Catholic faith. Even if a child was not baptized as an infant (or before the age of reason – 7 years old), we would like to work with you to see that your child is brought into Sacramental union with the Church. Choosing Godparents for your child should never be a passive or quick decision. It is an important life-long role to be an active Christian role model throughout your child’s lifetime. Our Parish Team is made up of wonderful volunteers who will help you in any way to make the Baptism of your child a meaningful and joy-filled celebration. Please contact Deacon George Nolan at 413.773.3311 X6 for more information.
Adult Baptism. Each year on Holy Saturday during the Easter Vigil, thousands of adults are Baptized into the Catholic Church in the United States. Parishes welcome these new Catholics through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). If you would like more information on becoming Baptized into the Catholic Church, please contact Sandra Mizula at 413.773.3311.
